Each year our students participate in Bethlehem's great music festival, MUSIKFEST, which takes place in August. In early July member teachers submit the names of the student who will audition. Auditions take place in early to mid July. Students are then chosen to participate by a jury of teachers. Usually two pieces of literature in the classical, jazz, or contemporary style is submitted from which the jury may choose one or both pieces to be performed. All applications are made through the sponsoring teacher. Teachers can obtain the application form by clicking on the "forms" button above. The teacher should complete the form using the computer and then clicking the "submit by e-mail button." This program is an excellent opportunity for our organization. Everyone agrees that we must present a quality program: one that represents only the best we have to offer as musician-educators. It is in this sprit that we have developed several guidelines for our teacher’s and their students. We are asking that: o The teachers encourage only the best of the teaching studio to apply, regardless of age. o The teachers complete the studio application and return by the published deadline. An audition schedule will be set within a week after the deadline for applications. o The student will prepare two pieces from memory. o The repertoire must not include “method pieces” below level three in any of the popular series such as Faber & Faber, Alfred, Learning Tree, etc. Serious music, (classical) Jazz, Blues, and Broadway music for the singers is perfectly acceptable. o Each student presents his or her pieces at an audition before the committee or submits a CD to the chairperson before the audition date. o Any duets must be four hands one piano, and will count as one piece for each of the performers. o Only students who actually audition will perform at the Festival. The audition, as in the past, is to insure that the student is ready to perform his or her pieces in public from memory and to insure we can fill the allotted time slots. Therefore, the jury reserves the right to choose or reject one piece or both pieces.
Upon completion of the auditions an e-mail will be sent to each teacher with the results.
