The Hannah Young Play-a-Thon is the only fund-raiser for the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Music Teacher's Association. The Play-A-Thon is a living memorial to Hannah Young, a musician fondly remembered by so many of the original members of the Chapter.

This once-a-year program has over 450 students, all from the various Lehigh Valley music studios of LVC/PMTA members. Over the months of January and February each participant collects cash pledges from family, friends, and neighbors; all to benefit the LVC/PMTA. Then, after careful practice, each performs during the Play-a-Thon weekend at his or her instrument, or sings at one of the three locations within the Palmer Park Mall in Easton, Pa. It is a fun-filled event that provides a wonderful performance experience for each participant. The audiences are large and exciting. The shoppers and passers-by are ever-amazed at the caliber of each student's performance. It is a once-a-year event that everyone anticipates with great enthusiasm.

The funds raised by the play-a-thon are used to continue and develop various music education and performance projects for both the students and their teachers. The Play-a-Thon allows the LVC/PMTA to provide thousands of dollars in music scholarships, for summer music camp and higher education. They also provide educational bus trips to New York City and Philadelphia, recital, competition and adjudication programs. The teachers are afforded special educational workshops and seminars so that they can continue to be both effective and vibrant as music educators.

We educators of the LVC/PMTA believe that a well grounded experience in music and music instruction is vital to each child's education. Furthermore, we believe that children can be truly transformed through music, and that private music education is the best way to ensure that students interested in pursuing their musical gifts will be able to develop their abilities and talents to the fullest extent. If you believe as we do, and want to help further our mission, please contact Jack Stevenson, Treasurer either by phone (610-691-5544) or e-mail. Music is a gift that lasts a life time.
